Witness appeal as Sussex cyclist dies following crash with fellow rider

Police say Martin Leonard died yesterday from injuries sustained in collision with riding companion

A cyclist has died from serious injuries sustained when he was in a collision with a riding companion close to his home in Catsfield, East Sussex, on Sunday evening.

Sussex Police have reissued an appeal for witnesses after the cyclist dies at St George’s Hospital in London yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, they said:

Martin Leonard, 52, of Skinners Lane, Catsfield, was cycling with three other men in Skinners Lane shortly before 8pm on Sunday when he collided with one of the others and they both fell from their bikes.

Mr Leonard was airlifted to St George's Hospital in London with head injuries, a fractured pelvis and spine and internal injuries, and sadly died on Tuesday afternoon (3 March).

The other cyclist, a 43-year-old man from Catsfield, suffered a minor head injury.
