Organisers of a major new exhibition targeting cyclists, the Active Bike and Triathlon Show, have been forced to postpone the event as a result of “venue difficulties,” and it will not now take place until 2011 at the earliest.
The show, whose launch we reported on last December, was expected to attract up to 18,000 visitors to London’s ExCel exhibition centre in April, with it scheduled to coincide with the London Marathon Exhibition also being staged at the venue.
According to trade website BikeBiz, companies such as Brompton and 2x2, which holds the license to make bicycles under the Land Rover brand and which had picked the show to launch a new bicycle brand, had already signed up to exhibit at the event.
The website quoted organisers Active Media Events as saying: "We have taken the difficult decision to postpone the Active Bike and Triathlon Show for 2010. Despite the positive reaction to the event in the market, difficulties with the venue have recently arisen.
"The Show was due to take place this April at ExCeL and run alongside the London Marathon Exhibition, however the ExCel management team were unable to deliver the agreed halls.
The statement concluded: "Active Media Events will fully refund all deposits. The Directors are looking at the possibility of running the show in 2011 and will be consulting the market to find appropriate dates and venue."
