team road.cc Sheffield rideout report

Last Sunday’s team road.cc rideout in the Peak District was full of fun, fiendish climbs and flapjack to finish

road.cc headed north to Sheffield for the latest team road.cc rideout, and what a ride it was. The crew from the city’s Decathlon store laid on some superb hospitality and a truly stunning route out into the Peak District.

The clocks went back and it was a cold start, but not for long, not once we’d meandered our way out of the city and straight into the first climb of the day, all seven miles of it!

Once in the Peaks, the autumn leaves created some stunning scenes as we climbed and descended, through picture postcard villages – thankfully going down Winnats Pass rather than up it.

The final climb of the day, Stanage, took the best part of 40 minutes, but led to to an eight-mile descent into the city, where we headed back to Decathlon’s in-house cafe for a bit of a refuel and the now legendary road.cc Schwag Grab™.

The Decathlon crew laid on a great route – thanks Mick! – and top notch ride leading and pace-setting skills from Jamie. And a special shout out goes to Pete for his life-saving homemade flapjack – these southern softy legs were starting to take a hammering from all those climbs!

Since writing his first bike review for road.cc back in early 2009 senior product reviewer Stu has tested more than a thousand pieces of kit, and hundreds of bikes.

With an HND in mechanical engineering and previous roles as a CNC programmer/machinist, draughtsman and development engineer (working in new product design) Stu understands what it takes to bring a product to market. A mix of that knowledge combined with his love of road and gravel cycling puts him in the ideal position to put the latest kit through its paces.

He first made the switch to road cycling in 1999, primarily for fitness, but it didn’t take long for his competitive side to take over which led to around ten years as a time triallist and some pretty decent results. These days though riding is more about escapism, keeping the weight off and just enjoying the fact that he gets to ride the latest technology as part of his day job.

Thanks to everyone involved for a great day out!

From the Decathlon staff getting up early to serve us coffee to the road.cc team and the riders, this was a fantastic ride in the Peaks, even if the final climb almost broke me.

Please keep up the good work!
