Video: Cyclist assaulted outside East London shop

Police issue appeal after incident in Barking earlier this month

CCTV footage has emerged of a cyclist being assaulted in Barking earlier this month, with the Metropolitan Police launching an appeal to try and track down the assailant.

The incident took place at around 6pm on Sunday 4 October outside a shop on Ripple Road, reports the Barking and Dagenham Post.

Police say that shortly beforehand, the man, driving a silver Audi A4, had narrowly missed the cyclist when overtaking him, then parked outside the shop.

The bike rider approached the motorist to ask him why he was driving in such a manner and waited for him to come out of the shop to carry on speaking to him, which is when the assault took place.

The driver punched the cyclist three times, with the victim falling to the ground. The attacker ran away along King Edward's Road while the victim called police.

Officers say the assailant is aged in his mid-20s, had short black hair and a moustache, is 6 feet 3 inches tall, and was dressed in a gray tracksuit.

Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call the Metropolitan Police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I know it's really obvious, but I can't help saying why don't the Police trace the driver through the DVLA ?, they have his registration number. Or am I missing something ?

Didn't they get the chavs number plate?!?!? He parked up but ran away???

Was it stolen? Sounds like a drug dealer either way

Just another day in your average Audi drivers life.

I guess the fact that driver punched the cyclist rather than hit him with a ton of metal box means that the police might at least feign interest in doing something about it

Agree. What a dumb driver; why didn't he just run him over? Given that the cyclist isn't wearing a helmet, doesn't have high-viz, and no lights, it clear that the cyclist would have been the one at fault.
