The Council in Pendle, Lancashire has invited residents in the areas along the route of the forthcoming National Road Race Championships in June to a public meeting to discuss concerns and plans.
The meeting is at 7pm on Wednesday, May 19 at Roughlee Village Centre.
The races for elite and professional men and women take place on Sunday 27th June around the roads from Pendle and will involve extensive day-long road closures.
As we reported back in February some Pendle locals are up in arms about the coming event. "Do we have no say? We have heard a catalogue of errors and it doesn't convince us it is going to be well organised," said one local resident.
According to this morning's Lancashire Telegraph, Brian Cookson, Pendle Council’s executive director for regeneration said: “We are working flat out to make sure the day is safe and successful for Pendle.
“It’s the first time we’ve had a national sporting event of this size here – it’s like the Tour de France coming to Pendle!
“But careful planning is essential. That’s why we’re keen to hear any questions or concerns people have before the meeting if possible to make sure we cover everything.”
The route begins at the Barley car park and goes up Barley Lane, along Black Moss Road and Wheathead Lane before dropping on to Blacko Bar Road into Roughlee, from where it will return to Barley. These roads plus some approach roads will be closed from 7am until 7pm.
