Suffolk police dog tracks down stolen £3,000 bike

A police dog in Suffolk has tracked down and recovered a stolen mountain bike worth £3,000.

German Shepherd Layla found the bike in Bury St Edmunds one evening earlier this week after police had been alerted to the theft.

Norfolk Constabulary - who operate a roads policing unit alongside their colleagues from Suffolk Constabulary - posted a picture of Layla to Instagram afterwards.

A spokeswoman for Norfolk Constabulary told road.cc: "Officers were called around 10.25pm to reports of a bike theft in Cornhill in Bury St Edmunds.

"The mountain bike was described as being white and orange in colour and worth around £3,000. Officers were deployed to the area including police dog Layla where searches took place on an area of large wasteland in the town centre.

"An abandoned mountain bike matching the description above was found and one male was detained on suspicion of theft.

"A man, aged in his 20s and from the Bury St Edmunds area, was taken into custody where he was questioned by officers. He faces no further police action."

It is not known whether or not Layla had the suspected thief on his knees during the operation.
