Team GB launches Rio Olympics kit
With 100 days to go until the Rio Olympic Games, Team GB has unveiled the kit the nation’s athletes will be wearing this summer – with cyclists Laura Trott, Lizzie Armitstead and Becky James among those modelling it at the launch in London this morning.
As at London 2012, the kit, made by adidas, has been designed by Stella McCartney following consultation with athletes including Trott, and it will also be sported by Paralympics GB athletes in Brazil.
According to Team GB, “The kits are designed to optimise performance and are, on average, 10 per cent lighter than in 2012 – helping athletes go further and faster.”
They incorporate the silhouette of a new and unique British coat of arms, commissioned by adidas and created by The College of Arms, which “was specifically designed as a unifying symbol across the two teams and the multiple sports that will feature at the Games this summer.
Team GB says that “the principal element of the shield is a unified group of the floral emblems of the four Home Nations and the motto ‘Iuncti In Uno’ means ‘Conjoined in One’.”

While the jersey of the road cycling kit is predominantly white, the skinsuits that the track team will wear in the velodrome are mainly navy blue, as this picture Trott posted to her Facebook page of herself and James shows.
With British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton suspended by the governing body last night as it investigates allegations of discrimination, it was reported that Armitstead, James and Trott would not be available for interviews at today's kit launch.

I quite like it, but Lizzie's with the white top looks much better of the two imo.
It's pigging awful. Dark, an utter mess visually.
What does the back of the jersey look like for the cyclists? Why don't we pictures of that- it's quite a key element!
And why do the road and track teams get different tops?
I was thinking a bit mid 70's Queen, Day at the Races or Night at the Opera. Improvement on 2012 never the less

I like the coat of arms design, but think the kit needs a bit more red. The road kit looks OK, with a lot of white in it too, but the track kit is predominately navy and if it's navy on the back, it could clash with the French kit. The 2012 kit was criticised by many people for having too much navy and not enough red, so I'm surprised they've stuck with that again.

So a commercial business based in Germany is commissioning a coat of arms for Great Britain then... that's nice. I look forward to Nike's take on the Union Flag and China's 'reboot' of the HM Treasury logo, complete with red background and yellow stars.
I bet Nigel Farage is spinning in his grave.
At least the representation of our flag is round the right way this time.

Another excellent job from the house of McCartney IMHO. I'm only talking about GB cycling kit now but in my 30 years of following cycle sport I have to say until very recently "our" team kits have been horrendous!

Stella McCartney is a really ace design house now. I bet this was the least experimental of all of the submitted designs. To be fair, any high street designer could have trumpted this up in an afternoon. Nothing interesting about it at all.
Not saying it looks bad, it's fine. Just very high street. Wouldn't go amiss in Sports Direct.
