#mycyclingweekend: Broken bones, busted bikes & mashed faces

If you had a read through our pre-weekend #mycyclingweekend article, you'd know that this crashy weekend had nothing to do with blood, gore, and morbid curiosity. All of us here at road.cc and the folks at Cycle Surgery wanted to hear stories of inspiration and injury comebacks.

And that's what we got.

I mean, we'd be lying if the images of wonky wrists, x-rays of half elbows, smashed-up teeth, and bloodied faces didn't have us wincing, gawping, and swiping through the #mycyclingweekend picture bank more intensely than normal.

We know you're all here for that exact same reason.

But, that doesn't mean that amongst those gorey images there aren't a couple of stories that are worth awarding #mycyclingweekend prizes to.

The first of such stories, and the winner of the Cycle Surgery yellow pump, is Chris's.

Chris also goes by the Instagram handle applescrapples and had an unfortunate descending incident that left him with a bloody face and a totally annihilated Kinesis CrossLight.

He says he misjudged his speed and ended up in, on, and around the back of a BMW M3, which we imagine came off slightly better in the collision stakes.

Chris's combination shot of his battered face and bashed-up bike might have rolled away with this week's #mycyclingweekend Cycle Surgery prize, but we couldn't overlook the next entry for its story.

So, Dan England, we'd like to send you a pair of road.cc socks for your story. Who knew rogue branches could cause so much damage?

We're pleased to see you're back in the saddle though. Congratulations on both fronts!

Branch flicked into front wheel spokes wiped out the majority, forks sheared from the frame, down in a split second at the time doing around 27mph. Fractured jaw, broken neck lost teeth numerous cuts and bruises. Off the bike for two months. Back on it for a 100 mile ride last weekend. #mycyclingweekend #cyclesurgery

The list of runners up follows here, including some absolutely stunningly brutal injuries.

Tommy Haywood sent in this shot of his elbow that looks like it's been completely sheered away from itself.

While pins and wires might be good for fixing elbows, that Shimano shifter looks like a goner.

Twitter user @myboringhandle, also known as Charlie sent in this shot of his trans-scaphoid perilunate dislocation.

if it's not your hands and wrists taking the brunt of the force when you come off your bike, it seems to be your face.

Of course, it's not just road bikes that do this sort of damage.

Car doors can hurt too, eh Paul?

Mountain bikes are also risky business, especially if you're a little rusty. Franc Lowe discovered that.
