Cyclist charged following death of London pedestrian

A cyclist has appeared in court in connection with the death in February this year of a pedestrian in London’s Old Street.

Kim Briggs, aged 44, died in the Royal London Hospital a fortnight after the collision outside The Reliance pub on 12 February.

Mrs Briggs, who worked in human resources, was on her lunch break from her job with the genealogy website Find My Past, which she had started working the previous month.

Today, 19-year-old Charlie Alliston of Trothy Road, London SE1, appeared in Thames Magistrates’ Court charged with causing bodily harm by wilful misconduct contrary to section 35 of the Offences Against The Person Act 1861.

The offence is one that is occasionally used when prosecuting cyclists alleged to have injured or killed someone.

The Metropolitan Police Service said that Alliston will stand trial at the Old Bailey on 12 October.
