"I'm a cyclist too" stickers for cars

Driving? Want to show solidarity with your fellow two-wheeled travellers? There’s a sticker for that

A cyclist looking to diffuse what he calls the “us and them” mentality between those who cycle and those who drive on the roads has created “I’m a Cyclist too” stickers to show people can be both.

Richard Cooke, who has cycled in London for more than ten years, got the idea when driving his new born daughter back from hospital, and seeing “all types of anxious looking cyclists”

Cooke hopes the stickers will help promote respect on the road by reminding people to look out for those on bikes.

Deputy Mayor for Transport: London’s new cycle routes will benefit everyone, even if you don’t cycle

He says: “As a London cyclist for over 10 years I know what's it like to feel the aggression between motorists and cyclists on our crowded roads.

“In June 2016, driving my new born baby daughter home from the hospital, I was stuck in traffic and thinking about purchasing a 'Baby on Board' sign. I found myself surrounded by all types of anxious looking cyclists.

“That's when I got the idea for the sticker. If it helps in anyway create some respect on the road instead of the 'us and them' mentality, then I'll be pleased!”

The stickers cost £2.99 and are available here.

On a similar note, for £1.50 you could also buy a Cyclists Stay Awesome from the road.cc shop.

I always thought that a baby on board sticker, meant the following;

Impatient person who whilst on the phone will cut you up/ pullout infront of you/drive up your arse or generally drive like the genitalia that put them into the position that ended with a baby on board sticker in the first place. The displaying of such a sign immediately requires everyone else to take avoiding action whilst thinking about the poor children that are now strapped over or near the fuel tank of a misguided missile.

not for me...agree with the security issues mentioned above and i don't want to be associated with the RLJers, pavement riders etc that i see daily.

I think the default response from many would be 'so what?'

A much better sticker would be 'I pass cyclists slow and wide'

Although it would be great to work in horses & pedestrians too.

No, I wouldn't put this on my car. More than anything else, it's a confused design.

Not only is he a cyclist, but he purports to be the KOM...that'll no doubt annoy a few cyclists...I mean, has he earned that jersey..

Who's Toto and why are we telling him/her that we're cyclists?

Just as with the dodgy overtake by the Sky bus, when the answer to the question "why the 'hell' did you do that" is "It's alright. I know how you feel, I am/was a cyclist too" somehow makes it so much worse.

You are judged by your actions...

Over the last few years, I have had several cars with nice bikes on the roof bars nearly take me out. A different, clearer design might be good though. The man in the logo makes it difficult to read at first.

No need for a sticker. Just drive considerately, that's enough for me.

And in a sense you're not a cyclist while you're driving, you are a driver.

The width I give when overtaking cyclists, none of them would be able to read that!

How about a cycling jersey with "I'm a driver too - and a better one that you, fuckwit" on the back?

Good point. Perhaps some small print "PS I ride an inexpensive and unattractive bike"?

Or some complementary/diversionary stickers, e.g "Bollocks to banks - I keep it under the bed" or "I got more rocks than Kim Kardashian's jewellery box"?

Last time I looked there wasn't much left in Kim Kardashian's jewellery box!

Well if irony of ironies you happen to get taken out by a car sporting this sticker remember to say:

Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar! [Dies]

Great idea which will certainly be a useful tool to quell a sticky situation - better than a baby on board sign, not sure what that is meant to achieve ? drive more carefully around a car that has one, or turn down the volume so not to wake baby?

My car has the British Cycling members sticker on the front which is two fold, shows I am a member to others so increases brand awareness and has actually been used as when i have been shouted at (for getting into the right hand lane when wanting to turn right (yes, i indicated prior to the manoeuvre))  by rude boy cyclist to inform the young man that I am a cyclist too so have awareness of the rules ofthe road and that it in fact he that had broken them.

I believe they're intended for the emergency services in the event of an accident, so they can prioritise helping an infant. Much like those "Vote Leave"/"Out of EU" stickers, except those indicate who shouldn't be a priority...

I've also heard that the emergency services ignore them as most of the time there is no baby

They do more harm than good.  Please don't perpetuate this myth.

I always assume it refers to the driver.
