British Cycling report further delayed

The publication of the UK Sport commissioned independent review into the culture of British Cycling has been further delayed. Already several months late, it is now likely to be pushed back until next month to give those who feature in it a chance to respond.

In April last year a five-person review panel was tasked with looking into all forms of discrimination and bullying at British cycling, with specific focus on the climate and culture of its World Class Programme.

It was hoped that the report would be completed by the autumn. However, the huge amount of information gathered meant it was only sent to UK Sport and British Cycling in January.

The Guardian reports that publication has now been pushed further back while lawyers ensure there is no possibility of a legal challenge. This is also likely to mean that the report will be redacted in places to guard against libel action from those criticised by others.

The newspaper also reports that the British Cycling doctor who received the package delivered to the 2011 Critérium du Dauphiné has agreed to appear before parliament as part of its inquiry into doping in sport.

Dr Richard Freeman will appear before the culture, media and sport select committee on February 22 and its chair Damian Collins said that Simon Cope, the man who delivered the package, had also agreed to appear, although a date has not yet been agreed.
