A cycle shop just for women has opened in York after a family business decided it was time for a change of direction.
Nicola Doody and her brother David Trotter have launched the venture on the site of their grandfather’s outfit Bob Trotter Cycles.
The shop in Monkgate was established in 1955 and is now home to all forms of women’s cycling equipment, including off-road, city riding and performance road cycling.
It is an outlet of Liv Cycling, a global women’s brand.
Mr Trotter told the York Press: “The addition of Liv Store York means we can offer so much more to all our customers. We now have the best selection of bicycles and apparel for female cyclists, plus we have been able to expand our range of men’s bikes at the Giant Store York.”
Mrs Doody, who will manage the store, said: “We are blown away by the overwhelming support we have had from Yorkshire’s thriving community of female cyclists.
“I am personally really passionate about getting more women into cycling, so we’re here to offer the warmest of welcomes and guidance on the first steps of your cycling journey.
“We are genuinely committed to giving female riders a platform to elevate their performance to the next level, whatever their discipline and goals. We have separate floors dedicated to Liv Cycling’s exceptional range of specialist on-road and off-road performance bikes specifically for women, and knowledge and services to match, for example on-site Powerfit bike fitting.”

Has it?
I look forward to the Asian Only Bike Shop, the Irish Only Bike Shop and the White Racist Bike Shop opening soon ............. clickbait !
There is a huge gender gap in commuting cycling. Not much action is taken by the government so if such stores can reduce it by taking out more women on the road, they are more than welcome!
Apparently, if you say "Clarkson" in that shop, a crowd of female comedians, playing the part of men who are dressed up as women, will pelt you with used freehubs.
Well me and my sister are definitely going

I was surprised when a women specific bike shop opened here in Barcelona. The market seemed a bit small and there are a lot of unisex ones already.
But it seems to be doing fine and my female friends love it.
It is also the most stylish shop at the moment, the unisex ones have to update now.
"The addition of Liv Store York means we can offer so much more to all our customers"
Er, no.
misleading title, shop caters specifically for women cyclists or somesuch would be more accurate, the title sounds like it bars men from the store
