If you’ve ever wondered whether Peter Sagan’s performances might be compromised were he to face turbulence in his personal life, the answer would appear to be ‘not particularly’. The runaway leader in this year’s points competition announced after Tuesday’s stage that he and his wife Katarina are separating.
Sagan married the then Katarina Smolkova in 2015 in a wedding that gave rise to any number of memorable photographs.
A couple of months later, the couple famously took on the roles of Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson for a rendition of the song You're The One That I Want from Grease. (None of this helped the Australian journalist who mistook her for a superfan in 2017.)
In October of last year, they announced the birth of their son, Marlon.
In a post to Facebook, which has attracted over a thousand comments, Sagan said:
“After a long and thoughtful discussion, Kate and I have come to the conclusion that we would be much better if we separated as a couple. We feel we should continue our lives as good friends and we both agree it is the right decision.
“We fell in love, went through a fantastic journey together and were blessed with a beautiful and lovely son, Marlon. Kate has been an important part of my life, supported me all these years in my professional career and is a great mother. We don't have any hard feelings for each other, we will just go our separate ways, with mutual respect.
“Our main focus will now be Marlon. We will do our absolute best to provide a caring environment for his upbringing and be the dedicated and loving parents he needs.
“I will not comment any further and I would like to thank everybody in advance for respecting our privacy.”

I'm thinking Peter's Facebook has been hacked.
Maybe she realised he is an a$$ grabber!
Sad.

Money isn't everything.
It must be hard for a partner, male or female, when their partner is off all over the world training, racing etc and having to bring up a child as well. I imagine it could be a lonely lifestyle so there's no surprise when you do hear of couples seperating.
Agreed. That is, I guess, the reason Cav always has his family in tow on a Grand Tour race.
It probably also why quite a lot of the pros seem to be married to other pros - the Deignans for instance. They don't get much of change to meet normal people, and they know that a) the other party will understand their lifestyle and b) know people who will snitch if their partner livens up a night away.
Well done Peter - a sensible statement and true indication that marriages do end but it doesn’t have to be acrimonious. And why do people always see the ex as the unworthy money grabber - time to lose the financial victim card and grow a pair.
Sadly not always but often, and even in situations where one is neither rich nor famous you get totally discriminated against by the system, by those supposedly protecting your children, by the family court system, because they are inherrently misandrist and are openly so, they are so sexist/out of date it's unreal and it happens time and time and time again.
It's time to lose the female as the victim card mentality and grow up instead of fixating on how big your testes are supposed to be!!
Sorry that Sagan and his partner broke up but if they can at least do it and not fall out then that is better than being together and making things worse, for them and for their child.
hahahahahahaha the "misandrist" card! BTBS coming through with comedy gold again!
RIP Peter Sagan's wallet.
