Witnesses sought after cyclist injured by tipper lorry near Penicuik

Police attempting to trace driver of lorry that failed to stop at scene

Lothian & Borders Police are appealing to witnesses after a tipper lorry failed to stop following an incident that left a cyclist seriously injured yesterday morning. The incident took place at around 8.40am south of Penicuik on the A6049 midway between Howgate and Leadburn.

The cyclist, a male aged in his 40s, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he is said to be in a serious condition, reports the Edinburgh Evening News.

Police have asked the driver of the lorry, which is said to have a grey or silver trailer with a blue or black tarpaulin, or anyone else who has information about the incident, to contact them urgently on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A police spokesman commented: "It is very possible that the driver has carried on without realising what has happened, and it's important that they contact police as a matter of urgency.

"Similarly, anyone who witnessed the collision, or who was on the A6094 this morning and noticed either the cyclist or the lorry heading towards Leadburn, should also get in touch."
