Paul Smith opens pop up cycling concept store in Harrods

Space features Rapha + Paul Smith collection, exclusive t-shirts, and four made-to-order bikes

Fashion designer and huge cycling fan Sir Paul Smith has opened a pop-up cycling concept store in upmarket Knightsbridge department store, Harrods. The space will be open for the next two months in the store’s fifth floor sports department.

The Nottingham-born designer raced as a teen before an injury cut his fledgling career short. Cycling’s loss turned out to be fashion’s gain, although recent years have seen him bring his two passions together, for instance through the Rapha + Paul Smith collection.

That’s one of the three product lines on sale in the Harrods concept store. The second is a capsule collection of exclusive T-shirts with what is described as a bold graphic print, while the third comprises made-to-order bicycles from Brompton and Mercian, as well as ones from both Condor and its Paris marque. Bicycles from all four makers are on display.

Give Sir Paul a break. It's all helping the cause. Complaining about overpriced cycling kit for those with more money than sense is like complaining about sports cars and fancy restaurants. If they feel superior fine - and unlike the other trappings of conspicuous consumption it all means nothing when you sail past them on the hills in your Millets kagool and tatty shorts. Ahhhh. The true capitalist democracy of cycling....

Yours - in my RCS team jersey - but with arm warmers from DHB.... 4

oh for gods sake, in these recession-hit times do we really need this over the top boutique wear that nobody can afford? Quite ridiculous ....

good quality, a bit niche, but Harrods? I had the misfortune of having to go there to pick up something for the wife..wouldn't let me in my cycling gear and I'd made an effort (Rapha gear, cleat covers etc) instead of usual Lycra kit etc.. more over priced tac for the muppets walking their £3000 fixed gears and Pinarello's round Hyde Park...but hey at least they'll look cool 39
