ITV4 will be providing live coverage of all eight of the stages of the 2012 Tour of Britain, which starts on Sunday in Ipswich. The final two hours of each stage will be aired live by the channel as well as streamed online on the ITV4 website, while there will also be a highlights package broadcast on the channel each evening.
It is the first time that every stage of the race will have been broadcast live and reflects the channel’s growing cycling coverage. There will also be big screens at each stage finish so those watching the race in person don’t miss any of the action.
ITV Director of Sport Niall Sloane commented: "Following our hugely popular coverage of the Tour de France as well as the Vuelta, we're delighted to be able to bring ITV4 viewers a third major cycling event this year with all the key action from The Tour of Britain."
The programming will be produced by Century TV, which has put together the television coverage of the past five editions of the race.
Hugh Roberts, Chief Executive of race organisers SweetSpot Group, said: “This is a great step forward for The Tour of Britain in what has been a fantastic year for cycling in this country, in a sport that continues to grow year-on-year. We look forward to rounding off the year in spectacular style with the best ever Tour of Britain.
“We have worked tirelessly with our stakeholders and partners around the country to make this happen, and are delighted that for the first time ever cycling fans can watch each day of The Tour live, wherever they are in Britain.”
Details of each stage and the scheduled coverage on ITV4 are shown below.
Sunday 9th September, Stage One, Ipswich to Norfolk Showground
Live – 13:45; Highlights – 20:00
Monday 10th September, Stage Two, Nottingham to Knowsley
Live – 13:15; Highlights – 19:00
Tuesday 11th September, Stage Three, Jedburgh to Dumfries
Live – 13:30; Highlights – 19:00
Wednesday 12th September, Stage Four, Carlisle to Blackpool
Live – 13:30; Highlights – 19:00
Thursday 13th September, Stage Five, The Stoke-on-Trent Stage
Live – 12:45; Highlights – 19:00
Friday 14th September, Stage Six, Welshpool to Caerphilly
Live – 13:45; Highlights – 19:00
Saturday 15th September, Stage Seven, Barnstaple to Dartmouth
Live – 13:15; Highlights – 19:00
Sunday 16th September, Stage Eight, Reigate to Guildford
Live – 14:30; Highlights – 19:00
Each of the one-hour highlights shows will be repeated the following morning, while those shows will also be available to watch on ITV Player for 30 days after their first broadcast.

Perhaps they should apply the same standard to dangerous, unsafe, poorly designed roads and COMPLETELY rip them out rather than "fix" or "redesign"...

I emailed ITV last year (2011) after the TDF to question their ongoing commitment to cycling and to thank them for the coverage....
They were very grateful for the feedback and did say they intended to grow cycling on the channel if there was deemed to be enough interest.
I asked them if it was possible to show Giro, TDF and Vuelta and poss Paris-Roubaix, maybe Milan-San Remo .... of course pointing out the benefits of showing the largest races ... I have to say the response at the time was prety positive ....
I'm not saying it will all happen but this year they've shown some stages of TDF on ITV1, we have the Vuelta, TOB is being shown in full and they've developed The Cycling Show ...
I don't think we're doing too badly really, hats off to ITV ...
.. and no, I don't work for them, I'm a GRaphic Designer ...
Will be interesting to see if this continues through to next year and to include the Giro.
Things are staring to look up for decent coverage of all the Grand Tours but I guess there is an argument for different commentators.
Normally you can just watch any of the ITV channels live on the website. I watched a lot of the Tour de France this way.
great to see full coverage, now all they have to do is find decent presenters and commentators ....
You can watch ITV4 live on TV Catchup.com and ITV almost always put stuff on ITV player after the event.
