Greg Lemond gives Lance the big stareGreg LeMond in car collision on icy roads, says wife
Greg LeMond, the first American to win the Tour de France - or perhaps we should say the only American - is recovering in hospital following a collision in his car.
His wife Kathy LeMond told VeloNation that he couldn't remember what happened in the incident, so details were sketchy.
She said: "We don't really know what happened, but there were about 400 accidents here this weekend.
"The roads have been terrible due to the icy conditions."
She added that the 51 year old will probably have to wear a corset for three months and "other than the pain in his back, he is in good shape."
LeMond was on his way to the dentist near his home in a Minneapolis suburb when the crash occurred earlier this week.
