Taylor Phinney shows he's ready to go for the Giro... by making a pizza (+ picture gallery)

No-one should leave Naples without trying a pizza in the place where it was created - few are as lucky as Taylor Phinney, however, who this evening was given the honour of helping prepare them what many maintain is the only place in the city to eat one, the Pizzeria Brandi, established in 1780. He also got to meet Mayor of Naples Luigi De Magistris too.

The Giro loves a trier, and last year the BMC Racing rider, who took the maglia rosa in the Stage 1 time trial won the  won the hearts of race officials and fans alike after battling on in the team time trial in Verona on Stage 4, despite having been badly beaten up in that crash caused by Roberto Ferrari on the third and final day in Denmark that also caused Mark Cavendish some serious road rash.

Pizzeria Brandi marked Phinney's visit by creating the Giro d'Italia pizza... that may be tomorrow's dinner sorted, although we suspect there will be a bit of a queue. It's unlikely to become as famous as the pizza the establishment is best known for - it's where the Margherita pizza was created in 1889.

The town where Stage 6 of this year's race finishes is named after the same queen, Margherita di Savoia, so if you believe in coincidences, why not put Phinney, resplendent today in pink trousers, in your fantasy cycling team that day?
