At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Birzman, better known for their tools and pumps, have come up with the aptly named Weather Warrior to protect your valuables. It's both practical and easy to use.

What do you do when you want to protect your valuables on your rides? Matters have moved on from relying on plastic bags and you need something a little more resilient.

All you want is a wallet that keeps your phone safe along with one or two other items you may need on your ride - a card, money or both. What you don't want is all of these essentials sloshing around in one big pot.

Again the Weather Warrior takes care of that. It has a tough nylon exterior measuring 19 x 11 cm (10 cm wide to the press seal), big enough for an iphone or similar. A nice feature is the touch screen window, slightly smaller at 15 x 8 cm that allows you to use your camera and operate your touchscreen phone without removing it from the safe confines of the Weather Warrior.

Despite the thick TPU touch screen it is easy to use your phone. TPU stands for Thermoplastic Polyurethane and is common used in this type of case or the countless many other protective cases/screens on the market. There was no detrimental effect on the quality of pictures taken through the case, well, nothing that poor photographic skills couldn't be blamed for.

Pull apart the press seal and you will see the smart thinking that has gone into the Weather Warrior. Inside there's an inner pouch separate from your phone. This section is big enough for a card, notes or a little change and best of all it is kept away from your phone as the divider sits flush against the press seal preventing anything from coming out. Genius and so simple.

The press seal requires a firm push to complete the job but you can rest assured that your phone will remain unharmed and if you carry anything else it won't harm your phone either. Given its size it fits into a rear jersey pocket nicely without protruding noticeably. It has negligible weight and for peace of mind it is nothing at all. Price wise it is on the more expensive side at £11.99 but is that too much to pay for keeping your essentials safe and dry? I think not.

Verdict

Keeps your essentials safe and dry; peace of mind in a wallet & refreshingly simple

road.cc test report

Make and model: Birzman Weather Warrior TPU Jersey Pocket Bag

Size tested: 160x95mm

Tell us what the product is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it?

The Weather Warrior from Birzman is refreshingly simple but very effective in ensuring your phone and extras remain dry, safe and secure. The split interior to allow you to keep a card, notes, a small amount of coins or some headache tablets is a great idea and they are all kept away from your phone. On top of all that you can still use your touchscreen.

Tell us some more about the technical aspects of the product?

Simplicity is the key. The nylon case, TPU touchscreen make this an ideal wallet to protect your kit from the weather. The press seal is easy to use and very effective.

Rate the product for quality of construction:

9/10

The predominantly nylon case with TPU touchscreen sections has been very durable. The press seal has although withstood plenty of use, pulling apart and sealing effectively each time. There have been no leaks or cracks in the plastic which have befallen previous wallets I have used.

Rate the product for performance:

9/10

If you use one of these cases you want whatever you put in it to remain dry and safe. The Weather Warrior has not let me down yet. You can also use your screen through the plastic window and avoid exposing your phone to the elements.

Rate the product for durability:

9/10

As I mentioned above, the Weather Warrior has withstood a lot of use and remains as effective as the first time it was used. The seal is still as secure which keeps all your possessions inside in their separate spaces.

Rate the product for weight, if applicable:

9/10

At 25g this is not a weight penalty you'll notice.

Rate the product for comfort, if applicable:

9/10

The Birzman Weather Warrior is easy to handle and despite the nylon exterior doesn't catch on your jersey.

Rate the product for value:

9/10

For its practical side and performance I would say this is good value at £11.99. Yes it is more expensive than other offerings but the Weather Warrior out performs them.

Tell us how the product performed overall when used for its designed purpose

It does exactly what is says on the tin. If you want peace of mind for your phone and other essentials this is the case for you.

Tell us what you particularly liked about the product

Its effectiveness and ease of use.

Tell us what you particularly disliked about the product

I'm not sure the hanging hook on the top of the case is really necessary, perhaps if you want to secure inside a ruck sack, but losing this part of it would make the case a little smaller and make it just about perfect.

Did you enjoy using the product? Ideal.

Would you consider buying the product? Yes.

Would you recommend the product to a friend? Yes.

Anything further to say about the product in conclusion?

Spot on for keeping your phone and other items secure and dry.

Overall rating: 9/10
