At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

At this time of year, I always think that behind winter clothing, a decent cleaning kit is the most important thing to have. You could do worse than the Pedros Mini Pit Kit 3.0, bringing together almost everything you need to fully clean your bike after a long muddy ride.

The kit comes in a seven-litre bucket with lid, which keeps everything together in one place. It includes a brush, sponge, microfibre cloth, degreaser, lube and foaming wash.

The first element to look at is the foaming wash. This worked well, lifting dirt effectively while not leaving any kind of residue on the variety of materials I used it on. Having used it on steel, aluminium and carbon, I was happy with the results. The only thing that it couldn't easily shift was decal marks, but with a little elbow grease these came off okay.

The sponge is also effective, with decent absorbency. However, I would have liked to have seen a bit more durability from it. Although not terrible, It would have been nice to have had something that felt a bit more high quality for a kit that costs £45.

The degreaser, in my opinion, was the highlight of the kit and this worked really well, stripping away the majority of the grease and scum from the chain set. I found that this was up there with some of the most expensive degreasers that I have used in the past.

It is worth noting that both the degreaser and the foaming wash come in very effective half-litre squirt bottles, which have really good power and spread when applying to the bike.

Once this is washed off, the microfibre cloth is really good for polishing and wiping off any excess around the frame. I like this cloth, but I would rather see it in a darker colour. It starts out pure white but after a couple of uses it just looks grubby.

The brush has two ends, one with medium length bristles and the other with long. This helps to reach some of the more difficult areas between the tyres and between the cranks. This worked well, but I would have liked to have seen something which also picked up some dirt, rather than just dislodging it. Whether this is possible with the relatively long brush hairs of this particular design remains unseen.

Finally, the lube works okay, but does seem to be runnier than others I have used in the past. This wasn't a major problem, I didn't find that any of my components were particularly dry any quicker than they would be normally but it did mean that it would sometimes drip through if I put on slightly too much. This is the kind of thing that I haven't found with Muc-Off and Finish Line versions that I have also used.

The final part of the kit is the bucket, which is well made, but could do with being slightly larger. In order to fit every part of the kit in properly and put the lid on, I would often have to perform a Tetris-like game to get it all in.

Aside from this, it works well, with effective and accurate measurements on the side to allow for mixing and precise volume measurements.

At £45 this does seem fairly expensive and would not save too much compared to buying similar quality components separately. As Muc-Off version can be found in the mid £30 mark, I would have liked to have seen something really special at this price. The kit work works well and does everything it needs to, but I'm not sure if it's worth the money.

Verdict

Good pit kit, but on the pricey side

"The Pedros Mini Pit Kit 3.0 offers a bucket full of the essential products and tools for cleaning your bike. The bucket serves as a storing place for wet and dirty cleaning tools and as a water container when cleaning the bike."

It does manage to fulfil this, but the bucket could do with being a bit larger to accommodate everything easily.

Performs well, in the words of a friend 'I have never seen your bike look as clean'.

Rate the product for durability:

7/10

Loses marks due to the sponge, which although good is not as durable as others available.

Rate the product for value:

5/10

£45 for a cleaning kit is steep, even if it performs well.

Tell us how the product performed overall when used for its designed purpose

Performed well, cleaned everything off effectively.

Tell us what you particularly liked about the product

The degreaser is one of the best I have used, easily comparable to top of the line brands.

Tell us what you particularly disliked about the product

The bucket for storage is not big enough. I discarded using the lid in the end as it was difficult to fit everything and put it on.

Did you enjoy using the product? Yes.

Would you consider buying the product? If on sale.

Would you recommend the product to a friend? Yes.

Anything further to say about the product in conclusion?

Good product, but could be priced more competitively. Muc-Off versions with more brushes can be found cheaper.

I love Pedros stuff, but this lot appears to be easily replicated at Homebase or Poundland or Halfords or wherever for a tenner.

Thereby leaving £34.99 over for important stuff like Cake, or 0.11663 of an 11-speed 105 groupset.
