BBB Traveller mini pump

The BBB Traveller mini pump is a practical solution for those wanting a track pump that goes places.

The construction is a mixture of plastic for the main body of the pump and a metal swivel base that sits flat on the ground. This is well thought out given that it will have to endure, and plastic on this part could wear down quickly.

The pump is easy enough to use. However better instructions on the packaging would have made it simpler. To change the end of the hose to the correct valve the instructional picture shows an arrow that makes it look like you just pull it off, when in fact you have to unscrew it. A simple change in arrow direction here would be beneficial.

Also the footbase is rotated out to the side. Once more a small instructional note on the packaging would save some time here.

The base is metal with the pressure gauge encased in plastic. I found that when rotating this the plastic felt sharp against the palm of my hand, especially in the corners. Not a huge issue when wearing gloves, but very noticeable without.

The pump is suitable for presta, Schrader and Dunlop valves, making it a great all rounder. Simply unscrew the end of the hose and turn it the right way up for the appropriate valve.

The hose is 25cm long which is long enough to attach it to the valve. The valve does need to be at the bottom of the wheel for the pump to be a floor pump though, but that's a given. You do have to fiddle a bit to get the connector onto the valve, but this got easier with each use. It's just a matter of finding a method that works for you.

The handle also swivels out to make it easy to grasp and pump. Once attached to your valve, the pump is very much like a mini track pump and works really well. It inflates your tyre to the correct pressure in no time. I did need to crouch down to do this given that the pump is only 30.5cm in length.

The pressure gauge works well and is a nice little touch. It's easy to read and means you can see at a glance how you are doing. No more under/over inflated tyres after a puncture.

Weighing in at 205g it is a little on the heavy side. It does come with mounting screws and is easily attached to your bike. But it is definitely bulkier and heavier than regular mini pumps. Saying that, it is a floor pump and can't be compared to normal mini pumps.

You can tell a lot of thought has gone into the design of this pump. Each feature works well from the handle to the pump action itself.

The price isn't too steep either at £29.99 and it can be found cheaper online if you are willing to look around.

It's a convenient mini pump that would be perfect for touring or those who prefer this style of pump over mini pumps.
