At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

The Showers Pass Cyclone is a well-made and comfortable jersey with a full zip and a good fit. If the pocket layout suits the way you carry stuff on a bike, it's certainly one to consider.

The Cyclone is mostly constructed from a dimpled Lycra fabric that's very soft to the touch and nice and stretchy for a close fit on the bike. Under the arms and across the shoulders there are mesh panels to help the heat escape when you're working hard. The front zipper is full length with a locking head, and behind it there's a flap to stop it rubbing. The arm grippers are soft Lycra and at the hem there's an elasticated band with a silicone gripper. It stays in place nicely and it's really comfortable on the bike.

The fabric is rated to SPF50, so you won't fry in the sun, and after dark there are well-placed reflective details for a bit of visibility from every direction.

In use it puts in a good performance. The medium weight fabric is dense enough to stop a bit of wind and it wicks well too. With a base layer and arm warmers it's warm enough for a sunny autumn day, and it's unlikely to get too hot to wear it in the UK. The material wicks well, and dries quickly for its weight. The grippers are comfy but do their job: everything stays put on the bike.

Round the back you get the usual three pockets, but in an unusual configuration. The middle pocket is zippered and waterproofed, so it's useful for your phone, and the two side pockets have a sort of semi-circular access at the side, rather than at the top, ostensibly to make it easier to access the contents when you're riding.

I like to ride with a large sticky pod containing my tools and phone, and it wouldn't go in any of the three pockets on this jersey. Similarly, if you wanted to stuff a thin jacket in your jersey, you'd struggle here. If you lob your tools in a seatpack and use your jersey pockets for phone and flapjacks, you'll be fine. Once you've got used to the hole not being at the top, the pockets are very easy to use.

Overall it's a very likeable jersey. It's well made from good quality materials, comfortable and smart. I wouldn't choose it because the pocket configuration doesn't suit the way I like to carry stuff on a bike, but your mileage may vary there.

Verdict

Good jersey for warm days, if the pocket configuration suits the way you carry stuff
