This thick grease, formulated specifically for bearings, provides immediate lubrication/protection for free/hubs, pedals, headsets and bottom brackets while resisting the ravages of rough stuff, cross and similar duties admirably.

The orange 150ml container conjures images of sweet, citrus smelling ingredients so I was slightly surprised to discover a luxuriously thick cream with the faint odour of pipe tobacco. The slightly rubberised texture suggests a polymer base, designed to operate at low temperatures, thus protecting bearings upon first contact. Juice Lubes suggest it doesn’t contain parabens or similarly harmful carcinogenic but wearing Latex gloves, using a decent moisturiser and storing away from children and pets are sensible precautions.

A deft finger scoop is sufficient for contact points, threaded components (including skewers) directly in the firing line of dirt and ingress thrown up by the rear wheel, but hubs, headsets and loose bottom bracket bearings were packed to bursting. It transformed a pair of budget track pedals from arthritic to buttery smooth in a matter of minutes. Prolonged hot, dry conditions have made little impression on the blend's integrity and there’s been reassuringly little excess to wipe away. Regular washing and some provocation from my trusty garden hose bode well for winter’s wrath.

"Bearing Juice is our low temperature specific grease for any bearing application on your bike. It has extremely high resistance to water wash out and will stay put for ages, working all the time to keep things smooth. Don't be disappointed that it's not a shiny sparkly product – these types of grease only start doing their job at temperatures in excess of 100°C, which is perfect for a motorbike, not so useful on a pushbike".
