Factor Bikes to sponsor a professional cycling team in 2016

British brand Factor Bikes to join pro peloton in 2016. But with which team?

Factor Bikes has revealed that it is entering the professional cycling peloton by sponsoring an as-yet-unnamed pro team in 2016.

Factor Bikes is a British manufacturer of the Vis Vires, one of the most revolutionary and futuristic road bikes we’ve ever tested at road.cc. With its full-length fork, split down tube and integrated stem, it’s a distinctive looking bike. And with a £10,000 price tag, it’s not cheap either.

- Review: Factor Vis Vires road bike

Retired professional racer David Millar rides a Factor, revealing to the world back in May that his new bike after hanging up his wheels at the end of the 2015 season would be a stealthy black Factor.

David Millar’s acquisition of a Factor followed the revelation that Baden Cooke, who retired from professional racing at the end of the 2013 season and is an  agent for Chris Horner, has a stake in Factor Bikes.

So with one ex-professional involved in the company and the high-profile David Millar riding one, could this be the connection to a professional team that will see a British brand step up to the pro ranks? The announcement makes no indication what level the team would be, we're assuming a professional continental level team rather than a WorldTour squad.

We’ve contacted Factor Bikes for a response to this news...

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes

So after thinking it could be one of the British women's teams, it turns it out it is One Pro Cycling.....boring.

In the same way that Millar's achievements cannot be defined by the term 'retired' we should not attempt to sum up his life on the basis of past errors.  He sinned, he took his punishment and he came back a better man.  For goodness sake let it go.

A retired drug cheat who managed to salvage much from a chequered professional career. Quite an achievement, he's also incredibly popular with the British cycling public, despite his indescretions.

Big deal indeed.

David Millar’s acquisition of a Factor

Can we guess just how much the high profile ex-pro actually paid for his 'acquisition'? I'm guessing £0

My guess £1 (most likely for legal reason it not being a gift)

He'll find it is a great bike, with plenty of storage room for food bars etc. in the down tube all a Mr. Miller will need during a ride.

Although I still prefer the BMC SLC 01 Landis edition with the T-shape top tube to hide those things.kiss

Afer being so gleeful about 'throwing the rule book out the window' with the Vis Vires, they will have to go back outside and pluck the rule book from the bushes if they want to go racing...
