Metal bands Slayer and Rammstein have both launched their own bike designs. Straight up! We're not sure whether this is the start of something big or just a strange coincidence.
Slayer has teamed up with US BMX brand Subrosa to offer a six item range: a 12in balance bike, a 20in BMX, a 26in BMX, a 700c cromo urban bike, a BMX frame and a saddle.
“We wanted to create bikes that BMX riders could use and abuse, and we had to do justice to Slayer and their fans by creating a look that would represent their brand, and stand out from anything we’ve done before,” said Subrosa brand manager, Ryan Sher.
Prices on the Slayer x Subrosa range have yet to be released.
Meanwhile, Neue Deutsche Harte band Rammstein is offering a singlespeed, designed and built in collaboration with Berlin’s Schindelhauerbikes, a brand that we covered on road.cc a couple of years ago when it launched a Berlin Bike Show version its Thinbike. Like that bike, the Rammstein model is a limited edition - check it out in the not over that top at all vid above.
It is built around a triple butted 6061-T6 aluminium frame and uses a Gates Carbon Drive belt system rather than a chain.
The head tube is milled with a Rammstein logo and there are black reflective Rammstein logos on the down tube.
More on the Rammstein bike here.
We’re struggling to think of other bands that have launched cycle related stuff. Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine released a jersey and cap with Militag a couple of years ago, and Talking Heads’ frontman David Byrne published his Bicycle Diaries book.
Of course, German electronic band Kraftwerk has a long-standing love affair with cycling.
Have you ever heard of anything like Simon and Garfunkel trouser clips or Kanye West chamois cream?
Let us know about any band/bike crossovers down below. Don’t mention Katie Melua though. Please.

"Ride to the hi-i-i-i-lls (der-der-dum, der-der-dum) Ride for your li-i-ife!" (Waiting for every aging rock band to jump on this particular bandwagon).
I bet a Kerry King riff is still faster than that Slayer bike.
Yes, this is what we want; proper marketing.
Death metal paint job - flame throwers - machine guns : you can choose two.
No mention of materials, rigidity, handling or any of the usual guff. It pulls wheelies and rocks with a hoodie. Order me 666 of them please.
I tried, but the best I could come up with were Racer X, (UCI) Rainbow (stripes), King Diamond(back) and Turin (disc-)Brakes.
Joking aside, Primal are official cycling apparel suppliers to Pink Floyd, Rush, and the Grateful Dead (they used to supply The Police as well).
Their european online shop has limited range but some good discounts (£30 for a jersey), whilst the US shop has more but at full price.

Also available on the bands' own merch stores, and ebay etc.
"Raining blood, from a lacerated shin..."
So long as the nine inch nails don't get into my tyres. That would be the kyuss of death on a ride.
I think Cradle of Filth had something to do with my winter bike.
Yet still nothing from the Cheeky Girls.

Nice idea! I want a whole range of Germanic Industrial, Experimental and Metal bikes -
A 'Transeurope Express' from Kraftwerk for Audax
A Tangerine Dream for the trip to the pub
A KMFDM 'More and faster' for racing
And an Einstürzende Neubauten (with a little lever you can drop on the road that produces sparks) for the commute
this one would also have a bar mounted radar seeking out members of Depeche Mode
When I was 14 and Reign in Blood came out I probably would have thought these were awesome. Maybe not so much now.
