Here’s a multi-tool you can carry with you on every bike ride, with Fix Manufacturing developing the Wheelie Wrench which attaches to a custom designed belt.
The product (and its snowboard and skateboard versions) has gone down a storm on Kickstarter where it has surpassed its $20,000 target from 251 backers with 55 hours to go.
Fix Manufacturing has developed a compact multi-tool and the All-Time Belt, with a leaf spring attachment system. It has designed three versions of the multi-tool, with the bike-specific Wheelie Wrench offering a range of tool bits that should deal with most components on a modern bicycle.
Here’s the full list of tool bits:
- 2mm thru 6mm hex bits (including 2.5mm)
- T10 and T25 Torx bits
- #2 Phillips screwdriver
- Slotted screwdriver
- Tire lever
- 8mm box wrench
- 10mm box wrench
- 15mm open ended wrench
- Spoke wrenches
The tool looks to be very compact and nicely designed but there’s no information on the Kickstarter campaign page about the specific details of the tool, what it’s made from and the dimensions and weight.
Granted many road cyclists don’t wear belts when cycling so the wearable multi-tool won’t be of much use, but for the many city and urban cyclists that cycling in regular clothes, it might just appeal.
“If you ride a bike, skateboard, or snowboard, you've probably had to build, tune, or repair your equipment at some point. Maybe you used standard home shop tools, or maybe you had to purchase special tools. But when you are out riding and you break something, you don't always have the tools you need to make the repair. We are starting Fix Manufacturing to raise the bar on portable and wearable tools across action sports,” says the company.
If it interests you, you can back the campaign with a $30 pledge and get a tool delivered anywhere in the world. www.kickstarter.com/projects/633003961/fix-manufacturing

(pops off to do Kickstarter for tool belt - with inner tube as belt)
Don't forget to make it like a bandolier for multiple co2 cartridges.
That'd be class! Ride around chucking them at people fixing punctures at the side of the road
The most common mechanical on a bike is a puncture, so where are you supposed to keep your pump and your inner tube? Do you just shove them down the front of your trousers like Derek Smalls?
More Kickstarter idiocy...
Commuters have pockets.
That was the first thing that popped into my head Dave. If I'm on the bike, I'm wearing lycra.
Possibly useful for commuters though.
Can't say that I often feel the need for a belt when riding, except when riding Boris bikes, and I'm not planning to start trying to tweak anything on one of those...
When I'm riding my own bikes I tend to be wearing cycling clothing with no belt.
Belt as lock would have been appealing to me. Then pocket the tool until picking up the bike again.
$30 only gets you the tool, the belt (and cap) take it to £70...
That wasn't immediately obvious when I was looking at it. It wasn't until I scrolled down and saw the option for tool, belt and cap that I realised. I don't know whether I should be annoyed that there's no option for the tool and belt without the cap or be pleased that I'm getting a free cap.
It works out as $90 (£64) including $20 delivery to the UK so it's not cheap, but I really like the look of it and I just can't help myself with shiny multi-tools.
I am such a sucker for multi-tools. I've backed this now to add yet another multi-tool to my collection.
Actually, most of my riding is for work so I'm in jeans. I would happily have one of those.
Finally the utility belt has arrived, does it come with a bat logo?
Given a lot of the stories on this site lately, I'd say a self-defence belt would be of more use.
Holy Utility Belt Batman! Or should that be, Bicycle Repairman?
