NeatCleats cycling shoe holders hit Kickstarter funding target

Complete neat freak when it comes to your cycling shoes? Rejoice, as NeatCleats have just hit their Kickstarter target...

The startup have raised the £5000 necessary on Kickstarter to begin production of a cycle shoe holder with recesses much similar to a pedal, so you can pop your shoes straight on securely, suspended by the cleats.

14 of the best performance road cycling shoes

WTF! Rinsten Spring smashes Kickstarter funding goal

NeatCleats come in two different versions: the first is a wall mount with a screw fixing, the only tools required being a 7mm drill and a screw driver. A wall fixing for both masonry and drywall/plasterboard are included for your £9.99 (or £7 for a limited time if you back NeatCleats on Kickstarter). The second option is portable with a climber's carabiner attached so you can hook your shoes in any number of locations on the go. It also features a bottle opener "for when only a beer will do" according to NeatCleats, which offers not much of an explanation but it's a nice touch. The carabiner option will retail at £24.95, but you can get one with an £18 Kickstarter backing until Friday 12th May.

They currently offer three different wall mount versions with Shimano SPD, Shimano SPD-SL and Look KEO cleats, and two carabiner options, compatible with both Shimano cleats and KEO respectively. NeatCleats appear to concede their product is a luxury rather than an absolute necessity, but want to “make your cycling world a little easier”: “Are we going to change the world? No, but we can tidy it up a little along the way.” They claim to be ready to go and will send out the first batch of orders in June, three weeks after the Kickstarter campaign ends.

On the other hand (or should that be foot?) NeatCleats’ promotional video that shows a gentleman proudly stowing a pristine pair of Fizik shoes on his hallway wall could just be an open invitation for others to share post-ride foot scent – so we’d provisionally recommend accessorising with some Odour Eaters if NeatCleats appeal to you…

A cool looking rack in a similar vein would be good, one that could handle multiple pairs and both regular cleats and Speedplays. I'd buy that. We have two pairs each and they just sort of lay around on the floor crying

I find this really irritating and can't quite put my finger on it, but I suspect it's because I think these have been created not from a need to store cycling shoes, but to display them. To appeal to the type of poseur who thinks that their Sunday ride belongs in Rouleur.

Black-and-white style over function, 10 times out of 10. Epic. Je suis cycliste.

Too many shoes, cycling, trainers etc, for the uncluttered floorspace in my flat so I got some doorstop wood from B&Q and cut it to legth and now most of my shoes live above the doorframes in the hallway which is only 1.5m long. Total cost £2 and 30minutes of my time.

Return from ride.

Kick shoes near hallway.

Lie down.

Now I realise there's a product to take my money.

'No thanks.

I have those shoes! They live on the floor, at the same height as my feet.

I have an IKEA shoe cabinet, it holds multiple pairs of cycling shoes within, it also holds normal shoes (and occasionally flip flops- non SPD variety).

The whole family can use it!

If I owned a set of neat cleats my 12 year old daughter would point and laugh at me and call me a 'silly sausage'.

I don't want to be called a 'silly sausage'!

I will continue to use my IKEA shoe cabinet!

Banana carriers are all the rage in Hoxton!

I do quite like the idea of hanging your shoes up on the wall' out of the way and off the floor..  now if only there was a way to put some sort of 'thing' in the wall which just stayed there all by it'self....

*six weeks later

Okay I've got a great idea, I just need £83,000 to fund the tooling and we're going to change the world of shoe hangings.. I can't show you the real thing yet, but here's a 'pre-production' sample I've had 3d printed..  clicky=  https://goo.gl/hbhUZ8

Now I'm still working on a few things... there's been a few issues with certain types of wall, anything with a cavity seems problematic, but I can feel I'm close to an answer, some sort of glove for it to slide into.

Shoes live on the floor, not in the air.

I just can't work out how SPDs (the MTB/CX/touring ones) clip in at all, but they claim to be compatible.

It's a different design to the SPD SL ones, one that fits an SPD cleat.

Call me cynical, but it seems like another of those solutions-to-a-problem-that-doesn't-really-exist products.  Banana carrier, anyone? 3

I get that the fixed ones are more home friendly than a couple of nails to hang your shoes from.  Each to their own - there's a market for posh bike hooks vs 99p garden shop ones.

But how do you get your shoe off the hanging ones?  On the rare occaision that I've cliped a shoe into a pedal that's not attached to the bike, it's a sod to get off again.  Usually requiring the pedal to be reattached to the bike to get enough leverage.

Apologies if all is answered on the video but they're blocked by the poxy.

So do mine - with a pair of boot bananas inside - keeps that mystery wee/stinging nettle smell at bay
