The Xplova X5 was hailed by some as the next generation of cycle computers when it launched a while back, unique in combining GPS functionality with a HD video camera. Now there’s a new version, the X5 Evo, and it’s being launched to the world at Eurobike this week, but here are some details before then.
The updated X5 Evo retains the key design and features of the original but builds in a number of updates that should be welcome. The video and photo recording function has been updated, it uses a 120-degree wide angle lens and records 720p video at 30fps.

Sharing has been improved, with compatibility with the most popular platforms including Strava, TrainingPeaks, Facebook and YouTube. You can also overlay data readouts and graphs onto exported video clips.
Usability has been improved, the touchscreen has been optimised to better work with gloves in the rain. The screen also automatically adjusts the brightness level to changing light conditions.
Dave Atkinson was impressed when he tested the Xplova X5 back in April this year, and compared it favourably with the benchmark high-end GPS device from Garmin, the Edge 1000, but highlighted a few issues that needed ironing out. Hopefully they have addressed these issues with the new X5 Evo.
That’s about all we know for now. We’ll be making a beeline for the company’s stand at Eurobike next week to take a closer look so stay tuned for an update.

720p seems a tad old fashioned these days for a front camera.
Let me fix the title of this article for you:

See what I did there?
