It's probably a mixture of dehydration and raised metabolism. Make sure that you drink plenty and piss a few times before bed. The metabolic activity means that your body needs to process a lot of the bi-products and will do for hours afterwards. Your body turns into a sort of processing generator which needs to get rid of these and flooding your blood and in turn urine with this. Ensure that ship as much as possible of the bi-products out by drinking. Your raised metabolism will also make you dehydrate more quickly too. Something that will likely kick in during your sleep.
This covers it very nicely... more than anything, really ensure that you have adequate fluids in you post exercise.
Went for a ride last night, got back about midnight and felt like I didn't have much sleep at all. Got up early and couldn't get back to sleep. I would have assumed the same as yourself; that I would have woken up late.
I am the same, can never sleep after a big cycle....mind you can't really sleep anyway...seem to survive on about 3 hours max per night...
I wake up earlier but I see that as good news funny enough as your body is ready to go.
Is it sore legs, or possibly you are over training and not allowing enough time to recover. Do you know what your resting heart rate usually is? Is it still elevated the day after a hard session.?
I generally find the reverse unless I haven't eaten enough before going to sleep. My stomach wakes me up in that case, and I sometimes lie in bed semi-conscious; too exhausted to move, yet too uncomfortably hungry to happily snooze. Unpleasant. I'm now more generous when it comes to 'refuelling' after a long or hard ride.
That's my personal experience... I've no idea if it's relevant to you. Do you wake up feeling groggy and wishing you could go back to sleep, but unable to?
