Purist prize in TdF

Hello you lovely bunch. Just dropping in because i have found some wifi so got my tablet going.

I'm playing as a purist this tour as i wont have regular access to change my team or even see highlights.

So my question is, If there is a nice prize for purist winner overall in the TdF, do the same rules as the BMC bike for overall winner apply? I.e. You have to be a paid up player?

Just thought i'd check. I know there is a long way to go, but after looking at the table, there are only a few of us playing purist, so chances are better 3

Sorry for the confusion folks.

It just happens that the unlimited period is on the rest day this year because of the start of Tour de Pologne.

So I can make changes in the unlimited window to my TdF team then?

It's a seperate competition so I'd think not

Technically, the Purist competition isn't a Premium comp. Am I right in thinking that?

The reason I ask is that I am running my main team, where I have paid to go premium, and then I am running a Purist team, where I haven't paid to go premium. My understanding is that there is no distinction between Premium and non-Premium teams in the Purist comp. as Dave's intention was to try to allow each Premium player to run a Purist team but it'll have to wait until next year.

The whole TdF is not a premium comp, not just the purist. But only premium players can win overall in transfers, so that should be the same in purist.

Its not only premium players who can run two teams under Dave's statement, anyone could run a purist and transfer team, which is why it should only be premium players that can win overall prizes in either league.

I choose not to open another account as i think the new "have two accounts" is wrong after there being the rule last year that one team per person, that's now out the window.

So why should people with two accounts have two chance's to win something? Unless they pay £10 to have both their accounts premium?? 14 14 14

Yeah, you've confused me now, I don't remember any grand tour or other tour having an unlimited window mid race.

Rest days are not unlimited transfers though.

You don't have to do anything--you're automatically in. For example, at the end of the first stage, the purist league contains... everyone. It's only as people start making transfers that they are removed from the purist competition.

New guy question,

I just set up my Team for this TdF. If I leave it pure for the whole Tour (I have so far) am I automatically a Purist and eligable for the purists comp? Or did I miss a trick and not enter somewhere?

Team "1 more hill" btw

Nope, no transfers allowed during a stage race, period. That's what makes the purist competition so damn hard during these grand tours. Many sprinters will surely abandon before the end of the tour, so it's a big gamble on whether they'll nab enough points early on to make them worth their spot on your roster. This is why most of the current top ranked purists in the TdF will drop like a stone in the coming weeks, and people with more GC and KOM oriented teams will begin to climb through the rankings.

Throw in all the unforeseen abandons due to crash injuries, illness, acts of god, strategic planning for the Olympics and other upcoming races, etc. and doing the TdF pure is quite the challenge.

But that's why purist fantasy competition best reflects the real competition, and that's why we love it. 16

Spot on, it's a totally different challenge and it's great fun.

I'm pretty sure purists got to make changes in unlimited periods last year such as rest days and thats how i have set my team up. So that day the tour de suisse starts i was going to make my tdf changes aswell.

Yep. Thats why my, friend' hugh has a purist squad. With guys like hesjedal in, ready for week three. I have, oops, sorry, hugh has not gone premium for the purist as there did not seem to be a point. Go goss (is whazt hugh would be saying this week).

on an aside, hugh tweeted chris boardman today and got a reply. Hugh suggested that chris and ned should do one of their sketches and recreate the flecha hoogerland incident from last year. Chris reckons ned is not up for it. Lol.

Classics last year was no transfers, grand tours have always been no transfers (which makes sense as step-hent said as your squad is your squad, end to end) as have any one week races.

This year two unlimited transfer windows were added into the classics (as opposed to the '6 transfers' transfer windows) because there isn't the same requirement in the classics for pro teams to run a single set of 9 riders and it's nigh on impossible to know who's riding the last few races before the first (MSR) even starts.

Nope, purists have never been able to make transfers mid tour.

wouldnt be very pure if you could, would it? The teams themselves don't get to bring in fresh riders on rest days...

Purists were allowed to make transfers in 'unlimited' windows during the classics, though, because they don't class as one race in the real world. Perhaps that's what people were thinking of.

Ok, just did a search now that i'm on a computer and not my tablet.

As a purist, you were able to make changes during the unlimited parts of a tour last year.

I don't know that. But I *do* know that in the unlimited transfer windows the game doesn't log changes. That means you can make changes at those points and still be a purist. You can look at the stage listing to see when those points are.

Gkam, he's referring to rest days - not the period between grand tours.

Folks, i'm not saying anything about expensive prizes. The question was aimed for the game admins like Dave. Just so i knew whether to make sure i got some internet time when its rest day, so i could plan my attack for the rest of the tour. 19

London, on the first page of purist, i only saw around 10 red P's. So not sure. But low numbers.

Didn't someone win a single-speed bike last year as a purist prize for one of the grand tours?

The vibe I've been getting is that purist prizes vary quite a bit and are based on what happens to be available at the time. I wouldn't expect a pricey road bike, but based on some of the spot prizes we've seen on offer, the top purist could take home something pretty nice.

And I think, like the spot prizes, you are still eligible even as a non-premium user. The way I read it, players of the free game are only excluded from taking home the grand tour grand prizes (i.e. those three sexay road bikes.)

Gkam,

I don't think there will be a bike on offer as purist prize. I'm sure Dave will arrange something quite nice but not the bike!

How many do you reckon are playing Purist then?
