Volta a Catalunya

I think the stage definitions for this race could do with another look. Is stage 1 really high mountains? The highest point in the stage is only 614m above sea level.

I also think we could do with another level between flat and medium mountains (hilly?). Stage 7 - a circuit with repeated climbs of Montjuic (roughly 150m summit) is obviously not flat but mountains of any description is pushing it a bit.

Any stage can be made to look like Mont Ventoux....it all depends on the scales on the x/y axis.....I'm playing it this way:

Standard:I set up a climbing team as if for stage 3 and then worked backwards so that I put 4 tough guy finishers in for stage 1/2(they strike me as Tour of Cali type MM stages) so that I can use the 4 transfers before stage 3 to get back to my climbing team.

Purist:Plenty of categorised climbing points on the uphill stages make it worthwhile to favour the mountain goats but still have 1 of the sprinters as he could easily top 5 in 3 of the stages.Of the big GC guys only 2 of them have proven form so far this season so they went in then a couple of young French climbers and, surprisingly 3 Poles(I thought before selection that it would be full of Spanish/South Americans).

Stage 1 has four categorised climbs, one of which is cat 1 (6km at up to 8%), stage 6 has two climbs which are cat 1 (10km long, tops out at over 1000m, ramps of up to 6%) and cat 2.

I make medium mountains as generally cat 3 or cat 2 at a push. Anything category 1 in my book is a proper mountain and with multiple other climbs I think that deserves high mountain status but I'm happy to be overruled.

The changes can be made but as values are set changing the stage status will alter little.

Firstly, please don't get me wrong - I didn't intend to complain or to denigrate the effort put into the game by road.cc or by the volunteers who help out with the extra races. I only wanted to start a discussion about it, plus possibly bring the profiles to the attention of those who might only rely on the stage definitions.

I don't have a problem with stage 6 - MM seems fair. I still think stage 1 is more MM than HM but if the presence of a Cat 1 climb is the criterion chosen to define this, then fair enough. At least we know and can decide based on that.

Stage 7 really needs a new category. The climb, although repeated often, is only 120m (vertically) so not really a mountain. Without that extra cat though, I suppose MM is the only real choice - it's certainly not flat.

Yup stage one should be medium along with stage 6

There is nothing between Medium and Flat, so stage 7 is right

I'd agree with all that. My point there was that perhaps there should be something between medium and flat. Montjuic isn't a mountain, however many time you go up and down parts of it.

None of what I was saying was a complaint about the game, just an attempt to start a conversation.
