I am a paying member of road.cc partly because it was stated that we wouldn't get ads.
Now I am all of a sudden getting ads every time I am on road.cc

It often happens when your subscription renews.
Go into your account, untick Ad-free reader view and save and then re-tick Ad-free reader view and save.
That worked for me, anyway. YMMV.
I think this has come up before as a minor issue.
I'd try unticking the ad box, save. Then tick the ad box and save.
Or maybe support need to tick/untick a flag on your account.
