I'm in 2 minds on this - it's a sticky plaster solution creating a 'safety bubble' in a dangerous enviroment, whilst the requirement is for the whole environment to be made safe.

A 1990s solution in 2023 - 30 years behind and not good enough.

Potentially of some value as an interim PR tool.

At last the police getting something right. Well done to the force concerned and to the police officers willing to ride with the bus. Small steps but at least in the right direction.
