Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/18649201.car-crash-wall-iceland-s...

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

More driver mental impairments being pleaded here like mixing it with driving is someone else's problem.

Driver raced through town at 80mph before crashing outside school

A judge told Joshua Gillatt he had shown a 'callous disregard' for the safety of pedestrians and other motorists

Gillatt was sentenced to 12 months in prison. He will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in custody. The defendant was disqualified from driving for two years and the ban was extended by six months to cover the length of time he will be behind bars. Gillatt must pass an extended test before he can get his licence back.

Gillatt...admitted dangerous driving. He has 21 previous convictions for 44 offences including thefts, affray, common assault, harassment, and resisting arrest.

Matt Murphy, for Gillatt, said when the officer tried to stop his client he had "panicked" at the thought of a custodial sentence for the domestic allegations he was facing and had driven off rather than pulling over.

He said the defendant had recently been diagnosed with historical mental health issues including post-traumatic stress disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and generic anxiety...

Mum and children escape from shocking car crash in Exeter with minor injuries

The driver is assisting police with their enquiries into what caused the collision

https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/mum-children-escape-shocking-c...

Also: No buildings harmed here, but if you look beyond the "re-design" headline, the person is making some good points about cars in Mevagissey.

Im guessing theres more to this one based on what else happened, than merely van drives into house https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/crime/fight-after-crash-in-tilney-all-saint...

Must have been a dangerous cyclist breaking the speed limit. And with no insurance.

van gets stuck on notorious Devon tidal road

It eventually took a tractor to rescue the van which had fallen off the road

Andrew (man in a Land Rover) told DevonLive: "I've used [Aveton Gifford tidal road] a few times but I've never caught the tide so I wanted to go through it when it was a bit deeper to test my vehicle out.
He continued "I even got my 'phone out while driving to take a picture - how neat is that?"

My poor little uninsured, unregistered cyclist brain gets fried by this sort of thing - doom and gloom everywhere about the cost of living, etc, but Andrew is going do the driving equivalent of putting your hand on the hot plate to test it...

"two cars crashed into the trees of the M4 as they seemingly lost control of the vehicles due to the rain."

The cars lost control of the vehicles ????

Although the standard of reporting can be seen in another story on the front page about champagne. Apparently there is one call "verb clique"

Now, I don't expect them to know every brand but surely that description stood out as wrong?

(veuve clicquot is the make - a glass of the widow please)

Paywall but you get the gist.
He faces allegations he drove dangerously before his unmarked police vehicle was in collision with three other vehicles and a garden wall on Streatham Common North, when responding to a reported terrorist attack on 2 February 2020

For the life of me I'm trying to figure this one out. The block of flats driven into are opposite the exit of a T-Junction. The driver concerned must have been tanking it to shoot through the junction, smash through a fence, then 60 feet or so of grass before burying themselves in the wall. Link below as I couldn't save the images.

Mr Grayson, said: “This accident happened. No-one is blaming Paul, they are all blaming the child."  Well, Mr Softee's friend sounds nice.

"The police seem to be saying highways should do something, it’s not a safe street. I just feel that Paul [Mr Softee] was in the middle of all this as the innocent party."

Weren't we meant not to be selling sweet or fatty stuff outside schools?

This isn't a news story or even a crash but I passed this burning car on the way to work this morning and thought it might fit in with this topic.

I was amazed at the damage to the front but seemingly nothing to the rest of the car and I felt a lot of heat even two lanes away.

It probably got there by the same mechanism that cars are able to park on a pavement without commiting the moving traffic offence of driving on the pavement. #NoDriverInvolved.

Yeah, in a different world we'd be better at separating the sheep from goats for diversion to effective social service / mental health support early doors. Or - if we want to run a more individualistic model (like US) - just lock people up (or allow citizens to do DIY law and order). However it seems we're falling between those stools, at least when it comes to the roads.

EDIT: "periscope depth, number one". Have they pixelated out three ducks?

We want the ducks to have a fair trial if they're eventually accused of being behind this.

Have you not noticed that as the tide rises, the ducks somehow stay just on top. Not possible unless they're somehow causing the tides.

Unfortunately Mevagissey isn't the sort of place that could easily ban cars from the centre. You can't make it residents/permit holders only unless you wanted to create a 10 mile diversion to get to Portmellon. It is a terrible place to drive through or around, but needs must at times

Good use by witness of the word "kerfuffle", though placed alongside "carnage" and two men with axes, I don't know if it is an entirely appropriate word.
