hey Siri show me two news stories that illustrate driver privilege:

Two stories spotted on BBC News website this morning:
Family blame parked cars for delayed ambulance https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj6k7n734jgo
Basically as per the headline - an ambulance was delayed in attending a person who had suffered a cardiac arrest due to bad parking in a residential area. Nary a bike lane in sight.

width restriction "does job"

my take away from this is that quite a wide area of Bath's streets are not suitable for cars and so the curtailing needs to be made more extensive.

More notice needed for Remembrance Sunday road closures

Windshield bias and cars put together in Kent - result?
Opinion: Maidstone’s roads let it down and give those passing through a poor impression of Kent’s county town
It needs not just a tweak here or there, but, ideally, a pull-it-all-down-and-have another-go approach.
There is no unity to the place – buildings from uninspiring eras jostle against office blocks which must have looked pretty awful the day they were built, let alone 40 or 50 years later. It’s far from alone in this problem, but the roads – the bulk of which are one-way - seem to showcase to those passing through the higgledy-piggledy nature of it all.

It's sooo unfair: Man's anger after getting Colchester Hospital parking fine
https://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/24716639.mans-anger-getting-colchest...
As always, I have mixed feelings about the parkcos, not least at a hospital, but characters like this (see picture) are a good reason to pass the issue on to them to manage.
Next up
Man from Ash, near Canterbury, gets £100 parking fine after 15-minute stop to collect ill mum from Charlton Shopping Centre in Dover
He added: “Since both of the appeals have been rejected, our next step is to potentially take this matter to court.

I assume there are charges here for blue badge parking (for once a legitimate holder and usage), our man refers to them - can't find anything online to confirm what they are.
The point of principle for me is drivers making up their own rules and indeed sticking to this when it's pointed out when there are actual rules. If no one backs down, this will presumably find its way to a court so I'm happy for him to tell it to the judge.

The news from Exeter traders is to good today: Justine must furious with all the drivers not carrying anything causing all this traffic:
Despite living less than half a mile away from her shop Hyde and Seek on Paul Street, Justine Hyde drove to work last week when she had to drop off some chairs. But instead of the two-minute journey she would normally expect, she found herself sitting in traffic for an hour.

DRIVER who sped at 90mph when he was undertaking another car on the A12 behaved “like a petulant child” in his trial, a judge said.
DRIVER who sped at 90mph when he was undertaking another car on the A12 behaved “like a petulant child” in his trial, a judge said.
The defendant, who works in security for the NHS, was self-represented and argued it was “against the laws of physics” that police could have recorded him travelling at 90mph.
Polkinghorne, who had parked his car in a nearby car park, told the judge he would lose his job if he was banned from driving.
The judge replied: “You not being on the roads for the next three months is better than you being out there driving.”
The problem is cars: too many, drivers too fast and failing to do the basics - it always is.
"The garage has always been there. It's not always the driver's fault. It's a fast road, it's a notorious road. There need to be better road markings."

Its that time of year again, the annual Network Rail most hit railway bridge by HGVs list, a mere 1532 this past year, so only 1 every 6 hours.
And it's Stutney Road bridge near Ely that takes the top prize 18 hits, so roughly 1 every 3 weeks.
