I wonder how many cylists "drink and ride"?
Judging by a couple of pubs along the River Thames, a hot sunny day is ripe for it.
It's not illegal to have a drink and cycle or have a drink and drive.
Did you check how much each cyclist was drinking ?
How much they were drinking wouldn't be so relevant per se - you'd just need to observe whether they appeared unfit to cycle as they rode away.
You mean if they have a beer belly they have a greater tolerance ?
Well, in somewhat simplified terms, yes. If you have a quick half and it goes straight to your head, making you a bit wobbly when you ride off, you're committing an offence, whereas if you have 2 or 3 and yet are able to remain in perfect control of the bike, you're not.
[Edit] Oh wait - I see - unfit - because they have a beer belly. Sorry - I was being a bit slow there. I haven't touched a drop, though, honest.
I'm not sure that "four in ten" and "almost always" mean the same thing.
Six in ten were, presumably, not drunk.
Why let the meaning of words and logic ruin a good soundbite though?
There were a crucial couple of words omitted from the original headline when it was posted above:
Thanks for pointing out my error - I've corrected the headline.
Like the scooterers, I wasn't exercising due care and attention.
That's what happens when you post while drunk.
When I read the headline I just thought that if I'd just crashed my escooter I might want to go and get drunk as well.
I was wearing a helmet though.
and hi viz?
Mate, you didn't see me?
