Its not the same stem fitted to the two bikes though, and we aren't talking about HTA we are talking about stem inclination or "stem rise" to use...

True. My "annoying front end creaking" turned out to be the seat post (needed regreasing and then the clamp tightened up).
Weird how much sound echoes around inside a bike frame…
And now it's back
Reseated the - er - seatpost, tightened up the saddle clamp (actually replaced the saddle). And it's still bloomin' creaking...
