Penarth man lands placement with Cardiff-based accessible cycling charity

Winner chosen from more than 1,000 hopefuls through Vodafone's World of Difference programme...

A 35-year-old man from Penarth, South Wales has beaten off competition from 1,100 other candidates to win a placement with charity Friends of Pedal Power, which seeks to make cycling more accessible to people with disabilities in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Andrew Radcliffe is one of 500 people from across the UK to have been given the opportunity to spend 2 months working for a charity of their choice under the Vodafone Foundation’s World of Difference programme.

He first became aware of the charity, which seeks to make cycling accessible to people with disabilities by providing bicycles and tricycles for hire, six years ago after losing his sight.

Mr Radcliffe told the Penarth Times: "I’m massively excited at being given this opportunity to really make a difference,” and will work at the charity as a business manager, helping to draw up its objectives for 2010 and beyond.

Friends of Pedal Power is based at Pontcanna Caravan Park off the city’s Cathedral Road, operating from premises built with the aid of a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, and full information regarding the range of services it offers are available on its website
