New club launch for Midlands riders

Cycle club promises something for everyone

A web portal promoting a new cycling club based in the Midlands is to go live at the end of January.

Born to Bike is affiliated to British Cycling and actively promotes every level of cycling including café rides, sportives, road racing, time trialling, trail, XC, enduro and downhill mountain biking, cyclocross, track racing, family rides and triathlon.

Mike Hayward, club secretary, said: "This is not just another club but a completely new take on what a club should be driven by riders for riders. Those of us who are lucky enough to have riding as a significant part of our lives would like to encourage others to adopt cycling as a way of life and are keen to promote the benefits of cycling at all levels to the individual and the family."

Born to Bike will support all aspects of cycling at all levels and will support its members achieve whatever it is they want to accomplish from cycling. The website www.borntobike.org will provide a valuable resource for members as well as a place to share their experiences and communicate with each other.Bridgtown Cycles, a family run bike shop in Staffordshire, provides a physical base for Born to Bike.

As well regular Tuesday night road rides and Thursday mountain bike fun on Cannock Chase Born to Bike will also be promoting family cycling fun days and numerous social riding weekends around the UK.

There are also plans to arrange yearly foreign trips to take in the big pro races whilst getting some road/off road riding in hopefully, fulfilling some lifelong ambitions in the process.

I can't really get past the phallic bit… but that's just me. I didn't realise it was supposed to be a rider on a bike until i read cactuscats's comments. Either way good luck with the club it sounds like you want to do all the right things.

Any plans for a jersey? I'd imagine it could become a cult item if you use the logo big enough

I saw the Christian symbolism immediately, on the website the cruciform t even glows like a neon sign and it's red - "the blood of the saviour" (I guess that's what happens when you're brought up surrounded by the stuff. I now use 'Life of Brian' as an antidote, which is most effective when administered frequently).

And why is the first b reversed?

There is still time to swap it to a capital T before the cock'n'balls thing gets out of hand.

The logo is not supposed to be phallic but as you guys have mentioned it...oooerrrrr. Dont think the designer thought of that but it will keep people talking.

We are really trying to do things different, time will tell if we achieve this but we are determined to make Born to Bike a success.

We are not a Chistian club and anyone of any background or ability can join as long as they enjoy riding bikes.

The logo is quite evangelical imo, especially on their web site. Is it a christian bike club or can anyone join? I'm a designer and i wouldn't have done it like that.

Well, good luck to them. It'll be interesting to see what they do that's different from existing clubs/websites (hopefully not just adding a thin layer of online 'social networking' to a traditional club). Worth signing up for a look, I guess.

Shame about the logo though. Unless they're planning on renaming it "Dorn To Bike" then it's a terrible bit of design.

Yeah. and it's got a touch of the cock-and-balls about it too. it's no atherton car centre (google that for some giggles) but it is a bit phallic. I can see what they were trying to do (rider on bike) but it doesn't really work, does it?
