Sir Bradley Wiggins has announced that he is to race in the opening round of the 2015/16 Revolution Track Series. The event will take place from August 14-16 at Derby Velodrome and will feature the Team Pursuit, Individual Pursuit, Omnium and Madison.
Team Wiggins have joined the Revolution Elite Championship this season as a means of finding form ahead of the London World Track Championships and Rio Olympics. Wiggins said that he and the team were excited to be involved.
“We’re excited to start the track season with Team Wiggins and begin the build up to the Olympics. I remember racing the very first Revolution in 2003 so I’m looking forward to getting back in front of the Revolution crowds and enjoying some good racing.”
Wiggins himself will race the Team Pursuit and Individual Pursuit, but his team will compete across all the elite events. Other riders on which Team Wiggins could draw include Andy Tennant, Steven Burke, Owain Doull, Mark Christian, Jon Dibben and Chris Lawless.
Face Partnership CEO and Revolution Series promoter, James Pope said:
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Team Wiggins to the Revolution Series this year. After a close contest last season between Champions, Maloja Pushbikers, and Orica-GreenEDGE the addition of Team Wiggins is sure to take the racing up another level and their calibre of track riders will make them a serious contender to take the Championship title.”
Further Revolution Series events will take place in Manchester in October; in London and Glasgow in November; and then twice more in Manchester in January. More information can be found on the Revolution website.
Wiggins, who earlier this month broke the UCI Hour Record at the Lee Valley VeloPark, has also been confirmed for the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic. Mark Cavendish will also take part in the event, which takes place a week after the Tour de France finishes, riding for his Etixx–Quickstep team.
Race director Mick Bennett described Wiggins as having ‘rock star status’ and hoped that hundreds of thousands of spectators would line the route to cheer him on.
Wiggins described the opportunity to ride on home roads as ‘very special,’ adding: “I was amazed how many people were out watching last year in that appalling weather. The whole Prudential RideLondon festival shows how much cycling has grown in this country.”

Makes a lot of sense. team WIGGINS is, after all, basically the core of the GB Men's pursuit squad. That's the entire point of it.
If Bradley had anything about him, he'd come down Crystal Palace to race on a Tuesday night. That sorts the men from the boys
