The bike-mounted gizmo that projects signals on a cyclist’s back

The Cyclee app will also allow the creation of custom symbols

The Cyclee sign projector concept has been designed for cyclists who are riding at night. It projects relevant warning signs on the back of a rider which should be easily visible to other road users. The signs change depending on the actions of the rider.

Yahoo! reports on the creation of Azerbaijani designer, Elnur Babayev. The Cyclee can be mounted on the back of most bikes and then projects images on the back of the rider to warn other road users of their intentions. It syncs with a mobile app so that you can choose to project your own selection of symbols.

Stop signs, turn signals and a bicycle are the main symbols already built into the system, although if this project gets beyond the design stage – it’s currently shortlisted in the Red Dot Design Awards – the app will allow custom designs, which raises all sorts of possibilities for creative/mischievous cyclists.

We’ve previously reported on – and reviewed – the Blaze laser light, which is based on a similar principle. In this instance, the projection appears on the road in front of the cyclist, warning people that you are approaching. It has proven such a success that the entrepreneur responsible, Emily Brooke, is on target to make sales of more than £1m this year.

A Kickstarter campaign raised the initial funds so that Blaze could go into production – the campaign in fact made double the original fundraising target. Brooke then went on to win the New Generation prize at the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Awards 2015.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

Can you customise the signs to include hand signals, with configurable extended fingers? 35

I think it's got potential for commuting in town, just need an easy way to operate otherwise people are going to hit potholes etc. while looking for the relevant button on their phone.

You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads! and what do you do, you mount them on the back of someones saddle instead... What I pay you people for, honestly? Throw me a bone here!

There is a big difference in cost making one symbol be illuminated and having many different controlled by an app. It's gonna be an overpriced, poorly visible laser. Better get a back light.
