Mark Cavendish to mentor next generation of riders at Madison Genesis

Sees it as an opportunity to repay the sport

This coming season, Mark Cavendish will devote some of his time to bringing on young riders at Madison Genesis. The sprinter will provide guidance and advice as part of a partnership that also involves his CVNDSH Scholarship, in association with his new team, Dimension Data.

Cavendish’s role will involve passing on his expertise with regards to training, road craft and race knowledge.

Former Madison Genesis manager Roger Hammond, who is now with Dimension Data, will also be involved. The two rode together at the T-Mobile team and the Manxman commented:

“Without the support of key people like Roger Hammond in the early days of my career, I would never have made it to the top as a pro rider. It was the advice, guidance and assistance that I received that kept me on course to achieve the pro team ambitions I had.

“This is the perfect opportunity for me to repay the sport I love with that same support and guidance for these young, talented riders. There’s no better platform to do that from than through a team I really believe in like Madison Genesis.”

Hammond said he was delighted at the sprinter’s involvement. “I have known Mark a long time, his knowledge and passion for the sport is second to none, combined with his enthusiasm to help nurture and support the up and coming generations, I could not have ever hoped for a better person to look to the future with the team."

Madison Genesis has also announced its team for 2016. The core of last year’s Tour Series winning squad will be joined by Felix English, Grufford Lewis, Alex Blain and Taylor Gunman.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

Roger will be doing a dual role and is not leaving Madison Genesis but we will also be bringing in additional support for Roger and the team to be announced in the coming weeks.

Is this a bit misleading? The thought Roger was doing a dual role at MG and Dimension Data. This reads like he's leaving. I hope not 2

good on him. He comes across as a bit of an idiot at times but I have heard that he always has done a lot of work behind the scenes that you don't usually see.
