Family-friendly Taga 2.0 cargo trike hits $1m on Kickstarter - in less than 24 hours

A cargo trike pitched at families last week attracted more than $1 million of crowdfunding within 24 hours of the project going live on Kickstarter – ten times the $100,000 the team behind it were seeking.

The Taga 2.0 is an evolution of the award-winning Taga 1.0 Bike-Stroller, devised by a team of parents from various countries and launched in 2009.

Sold to people in more than 40 countries, Taga Bike says that feedback from existing customers has helped it respond to their needs in the design of the Taga 2.0.

Taga 2.0 will retail at $999 – an electric version will also be available for $1,799 – and a range of modular accessories is available, enabling it to be adapted for a variety of uses. Discounts of up to 50 per cent on retail prices are available for Kickstarter backers.

Those include a sun hood, an all-weather canopy, child seats and cushions, a rear rack and car seat adapter, as well as – of all things – a water gun. There’s also an e-bike version.

Currently, the Kickstarter campaign has been backed to the tune of $1.5 million, with 51 days still to go.

In an update on the project page last Thursday, Taga Bike said: “We've reached our goal in 8 minutes and a million dollars in under 24h. This is crazy. The support we're getting from you is unbelievable. Thank you!! We will not rest until each and every one of you is super happy. Scout's honor.”
