Videos: Rocacorba with David Millar (climb and post ride interview)

Locals use their age plus 10 minutes as a time to aim for

For almost two decades the Spanish city of Girona has been home to many of the world’s professional road racers. 20 kilometres to the north of the old town lies the Rocacorba climb, a 13.8km testing ground that has now lent its name to David Millar’s Velo Club Rocacorba.

The locals apparently use their age plus 10 minutes as a time to aim for up the climb. In the latest videos from the Col Collective, Mike Cotty rides it with Millar and then interviews him at home afterwards about what life has in store now that he’s retired from racing.

Millar moved to Girona a decade ago and explains how Rocacorba has a special place in his life.

“When I decided to set up my own cycling club – cycling club’s probably a little bit of a strong word for it; cycling and dining club – I was looking for a name and I thought Velo Club Rocacorba, because the climb has been so important to me in the second part of my career and also it’s omnipresent on the horizon from Girona.

“It’s kind of iconic. And so it represents my history as a pro, but also my future as a social bike rider if you like.”

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

Mike's videos are always beautifully put together but this one, more than any other, really makes me want to go and ride that climb.

I haven't always enjoyed Millar's sartorial style but his look on the bike ticks the boxes for me.

There are strong rumours that Bradley Wiggins' sub 28 minute time was achieved by turning up in a car, warming up on rollers and ridden on a superlight, stripped down bike in a skinsuit.

Still 10 minutes faster than me up it though.

What was the bottle at the end? Camelbak podium, custom job?

Nice video! Millar's been doing great getting involved with online content since retiring I noticed. Hope he sticks at it.
