Roger Hammond 2.jpgHammond wins in Qatar
Roger Hammond today became the second British rider to win a stage of the Tour of Qatar – and they've only had two stages so far. Yesterday Bradley Wiggins overcame the handicap of the frankly limp 2009 Garmin/Slipstream plaid jersey* to win the opening time trial.
Today it was Hammond's turn when his Cervelo Test Team underlined their dominance on the Qatari roads by setting him up for an emphatic winning break 2.8Km out from the line, and he stormed home to take the stage.
After the race Hammond said: "We started attacking and I was the lucky one.
"We knew it was going to be windy. We knew it wasn't going to a be a sprint finish," he added.
"We had to attack and that's what we did."
