A real mixed bag of videos to distract you away from work and the state of the world this week, some of them don’t even have bikes in them. The world truly is a mess.
Tricks and stunts, 70’s Style
Kicking off with an oldie but goodie this week. Courtesy of the dusty vaults of the British Film Institute this is what cycling tricks and stunts looked like in 1974. Not a back-flip, can of Red Bull or fist-bump in sight. This is also what fashion looked like 40 years ago, although in some parts of London that tank-top is still very much on-trend.
Ride like a fixiegirl
Pulling alongside the Team Car on a fixie, pretty cool. Team Car is a VW Bus, cool. Team Car is trailing balloons, bit more cool. Getting a beer hand-up from the Team Car, well cool. Taking the bottle-top off with your spokes, get in the fridge.
Mountains
Mountains is a short film that follows photographer Michael Blann up Mont Ventoux and gives a small insight into what it’s taken him to produce his new book documenting some of the iconic climbs of cycling.
Red Bull Rampage 2016
Some people look at mountains a little differently though, here’s a nice heart-in-mouth compilation from this year’s Red Bull Rampage.
Fixie Fail Crash Compilation
We’ve seen some of these before on road.cc but who doesn’t love a crash reel, especially when it’s fixie riders. I mean they’re soooo 2009, don’t they know anyone hip is on a gravel bike now?
Mayhem Teaser
Although obviously the gravel memo hasn’t reached these guys yet.
Dafne Fixed flat-bed rollers
Bored of training looking at the washing machine and garage wall? Of course you are. Dafne Fixed rider Michael Guerra and his coach Cristian Montanari have the answer by putting rollers in the back of the truck and going for a drive to get that feeling of wind in your hair. Obviously this is going to work in Italy where it’s 25 degrees and sunny, less so down a grey, drizzly single figure temperature A17.
Rapha Prestige Margaret River
The Rapha Prestige is a series of 26 rides taking place around the world. Unsupported and unmarshalled these aren’t races and more adventures across stunning terrain from the cattle-strewn lands of the American Midwest to the mountains of the Massif Central via the green pastures of England. The Rapha Prestige series calls for teams of riders to work together and stay together over the challenging courses with this one at Margaret River being about 150km long with 2,000m of climbing over a variety of surfaces.
Laura and Katie in the Great Basin
Proving that you can be Epic and still have a laugh Blackburn Rangers Katie Hawkins and Laura Brigham face the Great Basin in Wyoming's Red Desert dealing with headwinds and lack of water with smiles on their faces when they traveled the Great Divide Mountain Bike Trail.
Ishtar X Tussilago
This hasn’t got any cycling in it at all just some skateboards, but look at those roads. Those roads! Anyone else get excited by a enticing squiggle of tarmac?
Just me?
Cycle Surgery go to Iceland
If you’re not convinced by those roads then how about these ones? Cycle Surgery went to Iceland to showcase some of the stuff they sell in their shops. Judging by the winter jacket and gloves with shorts combo they’re out of stock on longs though.
UNTRAVELLED LANDS - presented by Kendal Mountain Festival 2016
Finally something that’s bike-lite but a wonderful bit of inspiration to go outside and do something this weekend, anything. Anything apart from visit the Christmas Market that is. This trailer for the Kendal Mountain Festival that’s currently running and continuing all through the weekend should get your activity juices going.
