Joe Guy, an up-and-coming junior rider who was a member of Wolverhampton Wheelers, has been killed in a collision with a van near Cannock in Staffordshire.
The fatal crash happened at around 9.50am yesterday morning on Straight Mile at the junction of Vicarage Road in Four Ashes.
Two ambulances were sent to the scene as well as the Midlands Air Ambulance, with West Midlands Ambulance Service saying in a statement: “Crews arrived to find the cyclist, a man, with multiple serious injuries and in cardiac arrest.
“Bystanders had already started CPR on the patient which ambulance staff took over. They also administered advanced life support but unfortunately, it became apparent that nothing could be done to save the patient and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
His identity was confirmed in a social media post by Wolverhampton Wheelers, which cancelled yesterday evening’s track session but encouraged people to come along in memory of Joe.
The club said afterwards that the response it had received from cyclists from Wolverhampton and beyond had been “overwhelming.”
Before yesterday’s Solihull No Frills No.5 race, riders held a minute’s silence in memory of Joe as well as Birmingham-born Graham Webb, the 1967 amateur road world champion, who also died yesterday.
Staffordshire Police have asked anyone who witnessed yesterday’s fatal crash or who has information to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 188 of May 31.

i rode yesterday evening same general area, four ashes, calf heath and around the bottom of cannock chase...it was heartening to see many others who i guess must have known Joe out in their wheelers colours, i agree with yorkshire wallet..awful news like this is deeply depressing
Is it inaccurate though, just because someone doesn't meet your standard for writing doesn't mean it should be attacked by calling the author a "chimp"? Think you need to reign it in with the insults given the situation.
I don't think it is accurate. Firstly, the "young time trailling"(sic) is described as "crashing with a passing van" which implies that the rider was at fault.
The next paragraph then takes a different tack:
Either way, I'm not calling the author a "chimp", I'm just criticising that piece of writing and given the situation, maybe a bit more care (and proof-reading) would be far more considerate of the poor boy's family and friends.
Anyhow, I apologise for causing offence as that wasn't my intention.
from reading elsewhere it states that he was "in the wrong place in the wrong time"(sic) and "died immediately after crashing with a passing van" http://www.trifind.com/blog/2017/06/01/2291/
RIP to family and friends.
That "article" reads like it was written by a chimp.
horrible
