Hi Guys
anyone looking for accommodation for Stage 8/9 TDF or Etap and you get stuck - it's going to be real busy around Super-Besse, Issoire, Saint-Flour - have a look here; http://www.le-mouy-vieux.com and speak to my sister Lynne.
I'm going to be there in July for the glory days, but only as a spectator.
Hope this helps.
Best
Jack
Gregoire500 needn't rush out and buy a new bike but he does need to vist the Alps during the leadup and spend time riding at altitude. Lots of long days at altitude on the bike will give him an idea of what to expect and more to the point what his body and mind will accept.
Too many people think that riding with their mates in the UK,etc will prepare them to step up to the level of the "Protour Racers".
10hr days in the saddle at 100m are not the same as at 1500m and your body and mind will quickly tell you that regardless of how much food and drink you consume along the route.
When people like Tony Doyle are unable to finish due to accident then "Joe Public" has to realise that these Etappes are only for those THOROUGHLY trained and prepared.
Meanwhile i will continue to ride each day ,each etappe before the gendarmerie close the TDF to traffic for the 14th consecutive year, occasionally i encounter those who have got the etappe no on their bikes but as they dawdle along i don't get to wait for their story.
Thanks Garrigou, that's amended now.
There are 6000 places available to the general public on each event and a further 4000 on each event distributed amongst 'approved tour operators', corporate sponsors etc. So, 10,000 places available on each event, not 6,000.
Podium-Signed up and bricking it like the sportive virgin that I am. Can't wait though and will be ample motivation to be disciplined over winter and get the miles in. Thermals are first on the list, before flights, transfers, accommodation, pacification for g/f, decent bike...
Might ask Bert to give me the name of a good steak supplier in the meantime!
