Osborne visits Brompton factory

The Chancellor of the Exchequer sees real growth in action.

Yesterday morning the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, paid a visit to the factory of successful London bicycle manufacturers Brompton Bicycle Ltd where he was welcomed by the company's Sales and Marketing Director Emerson Roberts.

Hot on the heels of revelations regarding the stagnation of the British economy over the last 9 months, stated to be due to a number of causes including that pesky good weather in April, the visit to the West London bike company was seen as an ideal venue from which to discuss those troubling National figures. Mr Osborne was kitted out in safety shoes and shown around the factory, while production was in full swing.

Brompton have experienced good levels of growth in recent years, both in the home and overseas markets, with exports accounting for some 75% of output over the last 3 months.

Emerson commented on Osborne's visit "We are always happy to welcome ministers to the factory, and pleased that our work here in West London atracts a lot of positive attention. These are tough times for the global economy, but companies like Brompton show that it is possible to exploit opportunities in any climate, in our case by focusing on quality and by addressing imaginatively the needs of consumers."

Shame about the rest of the ailing British economy.

Lara has been riding bikes for longer than she'd care to admit, and writing about them nearly as long. Since 2009 she has been working as part of the road.cc review team whilst championing women's cycling on the side, most notably via two years as editor of the, sadly now defunct, UK's first and only women's cycling mag, erm, Women's Cycling.

Believing fervently that cycling will save the world, she wishes that more people would just ride a bike and be pleasant to each other.

She will ride anything with two wheels, occasionally likes to go fast, definitely likes to go far and is always up for a bit of exploring somewhere new and exciting.

Not sure George looks like he knows one end of a bike from another-whether a Brompton or not! Never seen him cycling out of Downing Street.

Osbourne is SCUM, plain and simple, the only place I'd like to see him visit is the bottom a deep dark hole and stay there.... PARASITIC SCUM!!!!!!!

Presumably he saw that Evan Davis programme, "Made in Britain" a month or so ago, which held up Brompton as the kind of niche industry we should be glad to have, along with McLaren, making bits of death machines like the Eurofighter, and GlaxoSmithKline, instead of all those pesky industries that actually make things people need. (What a shameless piece of pro-business propaganda that was - three hour-long programmes about the global economy, and the word "capitalist" wasn't mentioned once.)
