Entries open for Sir Jimmy Savile Cycle Challenge in Scarborough in July

Ride to benefit charities supported by former DJ, TV presenter, wrestler, pro cyclist and charity fundraiser extraordinaire

Entries are now open for the Sir Jimmy Savile Cycle Challenge, to be held round the North Yorkshire town of Scarborough that was much loved by the former disc jockey, TV personality, wrestler, pro cyclist and charity fundraiser extraordinaire who died last October.

The event takes place on Saturday 14th July and has been organised by Martyn Bolt, who met Sir Jimmy many times as a result of their involvement in the Dave Rayner fund, which provides backing for talented young riders.

The event, which takes place on a looping, 65-mile course taking in the best roads for cycling the area has to offer as well as some fantastic scenery, has the support of Sir Jimmy’s family and money raised will benefit charities that he himself supported.

“Jimmy raised millions of pounds for charity undertaking such physical challenges and this seem a very fitting way to maintain his memory and raise money for good causes,” said Bolt, who devised the route, which includes Dalby Forest, the Vale of Pickering and the Wolds.

For those who choose to stay in Scarborough overnight, there will also be a chance to watch closed circuit racing on Oliver’s Mount on the Sunday.

Entry to the sportive costs £25 and can be made here.
